Worn keys and door alignment
A key that needs extra force deserves attention before it bends or breaks. Door fit, the key and the lock itself can all be involved. Tell us whether the problem changes when the door is closed, whether another key works better and whether anything has recently changed around the opening. We check those details in person before recommending a repair.
A door that works more easily while open may have a fit problem, but that observation does not prove the lock is fault-free. We look at the hinges, strike and cylinder together. Replacing a lock without addressing a fit problem can leave you with a new part and the same frustration.
For a worn key, bring another copy if one is available. Copying a damaged key may carry its problems into the new copy. We check the key and cylinder before deciding how to make a useful replacement. Our key duplication service can help you build a small set of working spares, with each tested in the intended lock.
