Home keys, sound doors and sensible upgrades
After a move, rekeying the home can let you keep suitable locks while changing their operating keys. Include every keyed entrance you want covered, not just the front door. A door from an attached garage, a side entrance or a separate storage room may belong on the same list. Decide which doors should share a key and which should remain separate.
We check the cylinders before planning a one-key arrangement. Locks with different keyways may need a compatible cylinder or hardware change. If a handle has a finish you like, or an older door has hardware you want to preserve, tell us. Repairing a suitable part can be worth considering before replacing a complete handleset.
Door fit also matters. When a bolt rubs against the strike, changing the key does not remove that pressure. We look at how the door hangs and closes, then explain the repair alongside any lock work. You should be able to use the finished door without learning a special push-and-pull routine.
A keypad adds another choice. The Schlage Encode Plus, for example, offers built-in Wi-Fi and Apple home key for compatible devices. That can suit someone who wants connected entry, while a simpler model may cover a household that only needs codes. Before a smart lock installation, we check fit, desired features and the model's backup-entry method. We also explain how to add or remove users and who owns the administrator account.
