Controlling access with a lock rekey
Handing out a spare key to a contractor during a renovation or saying goodbye to a former roommate leaves property access in question. When you move into a new house, changing who can unlock the doors is a primary security step. A rekey changes which key operates a compatible cylinder while retaining hardware worth keeping. For a conventional pin cylinder, this involves changing the internal pin arrangement to match the new key.
We plan and test the change so the previous operating keys no longer work in the serviced cylinders. Tell us if the locks belong to an existing master key system. That change applies to the cylinders included in the job. It does not reset gate remotes, alarm codes or electronic lock permissions.
Homeowners often want to preserve matching decorative handlesets. A replacement handleset may have a different footprint, exposing marks from the old hardware. We check whether the cylinder can be serviced and the rest of the lock is sound before recommending that change. The goal is a working door with the access you want, while preserving finishes where practical. 512 Locksmith serves Brushy Creek and has served Austin for more than a decade.
